Hi, Iโ€™m CJ. I go by OrbitalMartian online. Iโ€™m a martian orbiting Earth, observing the chaos. This martian likes tech, FOSS, gaming and art. If I were a human from Earth, I would be from the UK. I am an enjoyer of videogames, a tinkerer of Linux and work in a school as an administrator.

I write here anything and everything that comes to my mind, whenever I feel like writing. I often write about tech, Linux, gaming and art. I also try to write week notes and monthly reviews when I remember.

My username originally came from when I played Apex Legends Mobile where I had to auto-generate a name. I saw a couple as I generated and merged them together into OrbitalMartian. I also have an interest in space and aviation, which fits right into the name. I have previously been known as LinuxGamer and a variety of other usernames before that.

I use Linux on one of my laptops, and my current distro is Arch Linux. I am always switching desktop environments & window managers but the ones I always end up flipping back to are bswpm, KDE, Sway - though I have dabbled with DWM, Gnome, Budgie, Hyprland, Niri, i3, QTile, and most other DE/WMโ€™s.

My gaming laptop runs Windows 11, purely because itโ€™s what it came with and it has an Nvidia GPU inside, and I donโ€™t feel like messing around with GPU drivers.

My current smartphone is an iPhone 14, running iOS 26.4.2. I am looking to get an Android phone soon, which will definitely lead to a number of blosts.

๐Ÿ“ฐ The Website

This website is built with Jekyll, with a completely custom CSS stylesheet, called orbital.css.

The source code is hosted on Codeberg and deployed on Vercel.

The history of my website is a complex one, spanning multiple years and multiple static site generators. It all began on Eleventy back in 2023 after Matt (a.k.a. The Linux Cast) changed his site to Eleventy. Before I then moved to Hugo, and then to Zola (where I used the Duckquill theme by Daudix). I then got inspired by Joelโ€™s website and decided to completely rewrite my site using Jekyll, and thatโ€™s where we are today.
